Spiking Intensification Week 2025 |
||
This week we are raising awareness against drink spiking.
Spiking is giving someone else drugs or alcohol without their knowledge or permission.
Spiking can happen to anyone, anywhere. It can be carried out by strangers or by people you know.
What you can do: If you think you or someone else has been spiked, stay with them, seek help and contact the police straightaway.
Since 2022, across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, reports of spiking have reduced but Spiking is widely believed to be an under-reported crime. A recent YouGov poll from showed that 10% of women and 5% of men said they had been spiked. The average age of victims across all types of spiking was 26 years and women were the victims in a large majority of all spiking offences (74%). 80% of spiking incidents happened in public spaces, almost half happened in a bar, after that night clubs were the most common location. Other places where spiking has been reported have included student unions, restaurants, festivals, carnivals, and a live music arena.
Let’s put an end to drink spiking – look out for your friends, never leave your drink unattended and don’t accept drinks from a stranger https://www.leics.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/spiking-advice/spiking/what-is-spiking/ | ||
